Biography

Edy Reinalter was the Swiss national champion in the slalom in 1943, but it was not until after World War II that he began to attract attention on the international scene. His greatest success came at the 1948 Winter Olympics, where he came up from third place after the first run to win the slalom. He was also 10th in the combined and 22nd in the downhill. Despite some continued success, he retired soon after the Games and died in November 1962 after accidentally shooting himself while cleaning his hunting rifle.
