Biography

Goalie Rolf Ridderwall played most of his career from 1981-94 with Djurgårdens IF, except at the end of his career, when he spent two seasons with Team Boro (1990-92) and another two seasons with AIK Solna (1992-94). With Djurgårdens, Ridderwall won Swedish titles in 1983, 1989 and 1990 and a European Champions’ Cup in 1990. He was also awarded the Guldpucken award as the best player at the Swedish championships in 1990 and was selected as the best goalie at the 1988 Swedish championships.

Internationally, Ridderwall was capped 129 times with the Swedish national team. He was the lead Swedish goalie at the 1984 Olympics and 1985, 1989, 1990 and 1991 World Championships. Ridderwall won Olympic bronze in 1984, was a World champion in 1991 and won silver at the 1990 World Championships. He also was runner-up at the 1984 Canada Cup, won the 1990 European title, silver at the 1991 European Championships and bronze at the 1989 European Championships. He was awarded the Stora Grabbars Märke (Big Boys’ Badge) #146 in ice hockey. After finishing his sporting career, Ridderwall worked with the Swedish Hockey Institute, one of the oldest and most recognized summer ice hockey camps for children in Scandinavia.
