Biography

Jaromír Šindel was a Czechoslovakian goaltender who started his career in 1977 with Vítkovice TJ. He played with Vítkovice through the 1982-83 season when he joined HC Dukla Jihlava for two seasons, then moving to ČKD Praha. He remained with that club for the rest of his career in Czechoslovakia but in 1989 moved to Finland where he played for five years with Hockey-Reipas Lahti and Tappara Tampere, before returning for one final season with ČKD Praha, retiring after the 1995 season. While in Finland, Šindel was voted to the SM-liiga All-Star team as a goalie in 1991.

Šindel’s international career started in 1978 at the World Junior Championships. He played at the Winter Olympics in 1984 and 1988, winning silver in 1984. He skated for Czechoslovakia at the 1981 and 1987 Canada Cup, winning bronze in 1981. Šindel competed at five World Championships – 1981, 1985-87 and 1989 – winning gold in 1985, and bronze medals in 1981, 1987, and 1989. After his playing career ended Šindel became a hockey coach.
