Biography

Austrian speed skater Gustav Slanec participated in the 1936 Garmisch-Partenkirchen Winter Olympics. He placed 24th over 500 metres. After World War II he competed at the 1948 St. Moritz Winter Games, finishing 37th over 500 metres and 40th over 1,500 metres.

At Austrian nationals, Slanec placed fourth in 1935, sixth in 1937 and fourth again in 1938. At the 1939 German nationals he came ninth. In 1947 and 1948, he was runner-up at the Austrian Championships. He also participated in the 1964 Innsbruck Winter Olympics as a starter and official.

Personal Bests: 500 – 44.5 (1938); 1500 – 2:28.0 (1938); 5000 – 9:15.8 (1935); 10000 – 21:50.0 (1935).
