Biography

East German flatwater canoeists Dieter Lichtenberg and Dirk Weise finished seventh in C-2 1,000 at the 1972 München Olympics. Dirk Weise was also nominated for the C-1 1,000 event and finished an unfortunate fourth. In 1972 and 1974 both claimed the East German titles in the C-2 1,000, in 1974 also in the 500 metres event. Weise also earned national titles in 1972 (then with non-Olympian Danielski) and in the C-1 1,000 in 1972 and 1973. Weise suffered a stroke in 2015 and became wheelchair dependent. He was employed by the sports department of his hometown Babelsberg.
