Biography

East German bobsledder Eberhard Weise won a silver medal at the 1984 Sarajevo Winter Games in the four-man bob together with pilot Bernhard Lehmann, Bogdan Musiol and Ingo Voge. Weise was brakeman of this bob, but started his career as a track and field sprinter. He took part in the 1974 European Indoor Championships and claimed a European record over 100 yds indoors in 9.5 that year. He was much more successful in bobsleigh, winning a silver medal in the four-man at the 1982 World Championships, a silver at the 1983 European Championships, after having won a European bronze two years earlier. As he was a substitute for the 1976 East German 4x100 relay team he became the first East German to make both the Summer and Winter Olympic teams. Weise later studied sports and became a sports school teacher.
