Biography

At the 1968 Mexico Olympics, Erich Kemnitz was a member of the flatwater K4-1,000 meters squad eliminated in the semi-final. Two years later Kemnitz had his greatest moment in 1970 winning the K4-10,000 metres silver medal at the World Championships.

Domestically, he won the West German K2 -1,000 metres, with Bernd Guse, in 1966 and 1967, and over 10,000 metres in 1967 and 1968. He also helped Kanuklub Charlottenburg win the K4-1,000 titles in 1967 and 1969, and the K4-10,000 title in 1969 and 1970. He was also part of the 1967 and 1969 4 x 500 metres winning relay teams.
