Biography

German biathlete Peter Sendel finished eighth over 20 km at the 1998 Nagano Olympics. He was even more successful with the German relay teams, winning the gold medal at Nagano and the silver at the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics. He also won two medals of each colour at the World Championships, all with the relays or the teams.

Sendel was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award. Surprisingly, he retired in the middle of the 2004 season. He then turned to coaching and enjoyed different coaching positions within the German Skiing Federation.
