Biography

Flatwater canoeist Paul Wevers won the gold medal at the 1936 Berlin Olympics with his partner Ludwig Landen in the K-2 event over 10 km. A few weeks earlier both won the German Championship in the same event. Wevers also won German titles in the K-2 over 1,000 metres from 1931-33 along with non-Olympian Franz Schneider. In 1933, the two men won the F-2 event over 10 km at the European Championships. Wevers died near Braunschweig in World War II in 1941 in a plane crashing in the ground.
