Youth Olympic Winter Games

Similar to the Youth Olympic Games, the Youth Olympic Winter Games is a new concept developed by the International Olympic Committee, and more specifically, as the brainchild of International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Jacques Rogge. The first Youth Olympic Winter Games were held in Innsbruck, Austria from 13-22 January 2012, while the second edition was held in Norway’s Lillehammer in 2016, and the third edition awarded to Lausanne, Switzerland for 2020. The 4th Youth Olympic Winter Games will be held five years later, scheduled for 2025, as the IOC has proposed moving the dates do that only one major Olympic festival occurs each year. The Games are open to athletes aged 14-18. The program is similar to that of the Olympic Winter Games, but with a smaller number of events.
