After the Olympic gold medal for alpinism or mountaineering was awarded to the 1922 Mount Everest expedition at the 1924 Winter Olympics, no ascent had been deemed award worthy for 1928. But the prize had not disappeared from the Olympic Program, and was awarded for the second time in 1932.
