Canoe Sprint at the 1936 Summer Olympics

Dates 8 – 8 August 1936
Medal Events 4

Canoeing became an Olympic medal sport in 1936 and has remained on the Olympic Program since that year. There were nine events in 1936, four in kayak, three in Canadian canoes, and two in folding kayaks events, both over 10 km, the only time that style has been used at the Olympics. There were four canoe sprint events contested over 1,000 metres for kayak and Canadian canoes, in both singles and doubles.

The races were contested at the Regattabahn, which also hosted the rowing events, in Grünau, located in the Treptow-Köpenick section of Berlin. The course was laid out on the Langer See, a small lake formed from the Dahme River in southeastern Berlin.
