Ski Jumping at the 1964 Winter Olympics

Dates 31 January – 9 February 1964
Medal Events 2

Before the 1962 World Championships in Zakopane, the FIS decided to change the championship program for Ski Jumping. It would now consist of two competitions, one on a so called Normal Hill and another on the Large Hill. It was also decided that each competitor would make three jumps, the two best of them counting in the final results.

In Zakopane the longest jump on the Normal Hill was 71.5 m, while on the Large Hill it was 103 m. In the 1964 Games the Normal Hill competition took place in Seefeld, on a hill with a K-point of 78 m and with the longest jump being 80.5 m. The Large Hill competition was held in the Bergisel Hill in Innsbruck with a K-point of 81 m and the longest jump being 95.5 m. Many thought that the difference between the two hills was too small.
