The sport of Boxing was overseen by several different international governing bodies during its history. After being governed by the Internationaler Amateur-Weltverband für Schwerathletik along with the sports of Weightlifting, Wrestling, Tug-of-War, and Weight Throwing, boxing had its first dedicated organization in the Fédération Internationale de Boxe Amateur (FIBA).
FIBA was founded on 24 August 1920 in Antwerp, Belgium, during the Olympics, with 11 founding members: Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Norway, South Africa, Switzerland, Sweden, and the United States. By then, men’s boxing had already been made part of the Olympic programme, with the first men’s events contested at St. Louis 1904.
FIBA would govern boxing until 1946, when it was substituted by the Association Internationale de Boxe Amateur (AIBA).
Note: Presidents from 1930 to 1946 are unknown.
