Although more excitement often accompanies the bigger weight classes, every match in the light-heavyweight division was decided by a decision. The winner was Eddie Eagan, who would later become a Rhodes Scholar and would also win a gold medal in bobsledding in the 1932 Olympic Winter Games. Through 2004, he remains the only athlete to have won gold medals in both the winter and summer Olympics. Eagan had been AAU Heavyweight Champion in 1919 and also won a title at the 1919 Inter-Allied Games, though strangely, in the middleweight class. Bronze medalist Harold Franks holds the distinction of being the only man to ever last three rounds against the 1920 heavyweight champion, Ronald Rawson.
