Americans John McLean and Thaddeus McClain were top jumpers, having finished sixth and seventh, respectively, in the open long jump. There were only four starters but the American’s handicaps were too much for them and they lost out to Hungary’s Pál Koppán, who had a handicap of 1.60 metres. This was the final event contested in athletics at the 1900 Paris Exposition.
