Biography

Alessandra Cappa was an Italian swimmer who set 10 national records from 2002-04. She was the first Italian woman to swim the 100 backstroke under one minute, which she did on 19 December 2003 with 59.93. A year later at the European Championships she won the bronze medal in the 50 back in 29.28, an Italian record. She competed at the World Championships in 2001 and 2003 and the European Championships in 1999, 2002, and 2004. Nationally, she won 33 Italian titles in backstroke, with 16 titles at 50 metres, 16 in the 100 metres, and one at 200 metres.
