Biography

Lida van der Anker-Doedens competed in three major K1 500 m finals between 1948 and 1952. Her best result came in the 1948 Olympic final, when she captured silver. She was impeded by Hungarian Klára Bánfalvi, which also infuriated Van der Anker so that she managed to pull off an impressive final sprint. At the 1950 World Championships, she placed 5th in the K1 500 m final, while ranking 8th in the K2 event (with De Waal-Malefijt). At the Helsinki Olympics, she narrowly missed a second Olympic medal, placing fourth. Always a member of De Trekvogels in Haarlem, Van der Anker won numerous Dutch titles in the K1 and K2 in the late 1940s and early 1950s.
