Austrian Michael Weiss competed in the cross-country mountain bike race at the 2004 Athens Olympics. He placed a disappointing 32nd and failed to qualify for the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Weiss then became better known for his triathlon career, especially in Ironman races, winning seven events in total.
In November 2011, Weiss was given a two–year ban for a blood doping infringement from 2005 while competing as a mountain biker. Weiss claimed his innocence but chose not to appeal the ban.
