Louise Holcombe competed at the 1972 Olympics just after getting out of high school at Sandy Springs Friends School in Sandy Springs, Maryland. Holcombe competed at the 1971 World Championships, placing seventh. In 1973 she won a gold medal in the K-1 team event at the 1973 Canoe Slalom World Championships.
She later became a teacher and a filmmaker, doing photography for, among other projects, “The Haircut” (1992). Holcombe graduated from Penn State University in 1976, and taught science and reading at the Summit School in Maryland; she was especially noted for working with dyslexic children.
