Biography

Chris Barlow paddled for the US at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. He was a three-time medalist at the Pan American Games, winning bronze medals in the K-4 1,000 and K-4 500 at the 1991 Pan Ams, and a silver in K-4 1,000 in 1995. A native of Wales, Barlow studied at the University of London, and then came to the US, immigrating with his wife. At the time of the 1992 Olympics Barlow worked at Sea World in California training killer whales, a job he got from the US Olympic Job Opportunities Program.

In 1996 Barlow turned to coaching, starting the San Diego Canoe Kayak Team (SDCKT). He coached the US Junior team at the 2009 and 2011 World Junior Championships, and has coached at the Olympic Training Centre in Chula Vista, California. However, he continued to race in surf ski races and flatwater sprint kayaking.
