Biography

Emil Chuprenski was a Bulgarian lightweight boxer who became a two-time European champion. Chuprenski won his first European title in 1983 in Varna before defending his title two years later in Budapest. He then fought at his third consecutive championships in 1987, winning silver in Torino after losing to the Soviet fighter Orzubek Nazarov. One year earlier Chuprenski also won bronze at the World Amateur Championships in Reno, Nevada. In 1988 he competed at the Seoul Olympics, losing to Romallis Ellis of the United States in the quarter-finals. In 1992 Chuprenski turned professional, but had a mixed career as a pro boxer. He lost his opening fight, before suffering two draws and another defeat before recording his first win. After losing his next bout, he recorded a streak of seven straight wins, but went on to lose his final six fights.
