Tim Stockdale

Tim Stockdale was competing internationally at Moorsele, Belgium in September 2018, just two months before being diagnosed with the illness that claimed his life at the age of 54. He made his international début in 1988, represented Great Britain in more than 50 Nations Cup events, and appeared on three major championship teams. Having appeared in the 2002 World Equestrian Games, he then partnered Corlato at the Beijing Olympics, where the pair finished best of the British combinations, in equal 16th place. Stockdale’s third and final major championship appearance was on home soil at the 2009 European Championships at Windsor. In 2010 he was the Chef d’Equipe for the winning Great Britain team at the Nations Cup in Abu Dhabi.

Stockdale won many individual titles including the 2002 Grand Prix at the Horse of the Year Show on Parcival, and 2007 Royal Windsor Grand Prix on Corlato. His finest moment, however, was in winning the prestigious King George V Gold Cup at Hickstead on Kalico Bay in 2010. The following year Stockdale fractured three vertebrae after a fall, but made a remarkable recovery and returned to the saddle just three months later.

Stockdale’s illustrious career saw him serve as chairman of the British Show Jumping Association’s marketing committee. He was also awarded the British Equestrian Federation Medal of Honour and was a member of Sky Sport’s show jumping commentary team.
