Mexican equestrian Ernesto del Castillo served with the Army, where he reached the rank of lieutenant colonel. In 1968 Del Castillo was selected to compete at his home Olympics in Mexico City, finishing 19th in the individual event and sixth in the team competition. He continued to compete and be on active duty well into his 60s, including coaching the equestrian teams for the Olympics during the 1980s.
