Biography

John Downer was a major in the US Army, serving in field artillery, at the time of the 1920 Olympics. He also served as the team captain. In May 1921 Downer represented the US at a meeting of national equestrian officials, to set up rules for the Olympic equestrian program in 1924. Downer was also known as a top polo player but he did not play that sport at the 1920 Olympics.
