Biography

Hailing from a famous equestrian family, Dick Fanshawe was a leading show jumper and eventer in the 1930s. Apart from winning a bronze medal with the British eventing team at the 1936 Olympics, he won the Connaught Trophy at the 1931 International Horse Show at Olympia. A jumping competition open to British Army Officers, he beat a field of 99 to win the trophy. He also won the King’s Cup at the Olympia Royal Tournament in 1937 on his horse Noah. Major Fanshawe served with the 16th/5th Lancers.
