Qaboos bin Said was the Sultan of Oman for nearly half a century after overthrowing his father in a coup d’état in 1970, ruling the nation until his death in January 2020. After completing his primary and secondary education in Oman, Qaboos then moved to England to continue with his studies. He graduated from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and served a brief stint in the British Army. Once in power he modernised the country using its vast oil reserves, which saw the establishment of much needed infrastructures such as roads, healthcare, and education. Amongst the many honours bestowed upon Qaboos, he was awarded with the Olympic Order in Gold in 2001.
