Biography

Following his graduation from Colombia College in 1956 John T. Garnjost served as a pilot in the US Air Force in Japan and Taiwan until 1959. After his military service Garnjost worked for the Bristol-Myers Company in New York for more than 20 years where he later became their managing director in Malaysia and their President in Taiwan.

Garnjost was also an international rowing official who officiated around the world between 1970 and 1999, including at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. He was honoured with multiple awards for his service to the sport including the Olympic Order in Silver in 2000, the George Shiebler Award from the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference in 2003, and the Dick Alcock Award for 50 years of service from US Rowing.
