Raphael Agustino Kubaga

As well as holding the post of chief of immigration Raphael Agustino Kubaga also had multiple roles in sporting administration in Tanzania and across Africa. After leaving school Kubaga began working for the Immigration Department in 1957 as a junior switch board operator. He rose through the ranks of the organisation and by 1969 he was chief immigration officer at the Tanzania Immigration Department, a post he held until his retirement in 1983.

Kubaga also held several leadership roles in sporting organisations. After working as the chair of a local regional association, he then worked as the chair of the Tanzania Amateur Athletic Association from 1972 to 1982. This overlapped with Kubaga’s role with the Tanzania Olympic Committee, where he was the chairman from 1977 to 2002. From 1982 to 2002 he was the Vice President of the Africa Sports Association.
