Prior to serving as the President of the Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Olympic Committee (SVGOC) from 1991 to 1997, Donnie De Freitas also served as the President of the nation’s table tennis association. During his leadership De Freitas completely revised the SVGOC’s constitution and implemented a new operational structure. Following his sporting administration roles he worked in the telecommunications sector across the Caribbean. He became the managing director of the Eastern Caribbean Telecommunications Authority (ECTEL), the regional regulatory body for broadband infrastructure in the area. In 2009 De Freitas became the head of the Office of the Regulator in Samoa, working in the role until 2015 until moving to Fiji to establish a new internet service provider on the island.
