As a little child Vasile Pinciu adored horses, attending riding classes where he learnt to vault. Pinciu began as a jockey, winning the Romanian Derby in 1952, before starting his military training with the cavalry later that same year. After founding a military club, he later transferred to Dinamo București, soon becoming part of the Romanian national equestrian team. In 1960 Pinciu competed at the Roma Olympics, finishing sixth in the team competition, in addition to placing 32nd in the individual event.
In addition to winning multiple national show jumping titles, Pinciu won multiple events across Europe in 1961, including the Nations Cup in Roma, the Grand Prix in Nice, and the Grand Prix of Sweden. By the end of the 1960s Pinciu moved to West Germany, becoming a coach in Dortmund, before returning to Romania in 1989.
