Biography

Alberto Bernardo Azevedo Leite Rodrigues served with the Portuguese National Republican Guard and was stationed in Guinea during 1967. Rodrigues was the commander of the 4th platoon of Cavalry Company 1748 when he was seriously injured in October 1967, requiring him to be evacuated to a military hospital before returning home to Portugal. He was later awarded with the War Cross of 4th Class in recognition of his leadership and bravery. In 1984 he was promoted to the rank of Captain of the National Republican Guard.

Rodrigues was also a keen equestrian, competing in multiple competitions across the globe and winning medals in Brazil and at the European Championships. In 1992 he represented Portugal at the Barcelona Olympics, finishing 15th in the team event.
