Francis Bazire

Francis Bazire was trained by André Boucher, a renowned cycling coach in France. In 1959, Bazire won the Youth Jersey. Three years later, he went on to win the French amateur title. In 1963, he won the Maillot des As to become the number one cyclist in Normandy. In the same year, he finished second in the national amateur road race and second in the same event at the World Championships. His best result was winning the road race at the Mediterranean Games in Napoli.

After competing at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, Bazire turned professional the following year riding for Peugeot. However, due to a difficult relationship with the team’s directeur sportif, and no further race victories, he quit in June 1966 to retrain as a truck driver.
