Daniele Cesaretti represented the San Marino national cycling team for more than 20 years. In 1972, when Cesaretti was only 18-years-old, he was selected to compete in the road race at the München Olympics, but did not finish the course. Four years later he returned to the Olympics for the Montréal Games, once again riding in the road race. Cesaretti continued racing but did not turn professional until 1988, riding in the road race at that years’ UCI Road World Championships in Belgium. He raced as a pro for four more years before retiring in 1992 at the age of 38.
