Biography

Gianfranco Contri was an Italian cyclist. An excellent rouleur, he never turned professional. Contri won the 1988 Youth World Championship over 70 km, and was at his best in time trials. Contri won three world titles with the Italian national time trial team, in 1991 and 1993-94, adding a silver medal at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. Domestically he won the individual Italian time trial title in 1992 and two titles in the team pursuit on the track. He retired after the 1997 season.
