In 1968 French cyclist Daniel Ducreux won a stage of the Tour de l’Avenir to earn himself a place on the Olympic team for the Mexico City Games, where he finished 33rd in the road race. The following year Ducreux won a stage of the Peace Race and became the French amateur road race champion before turning professional. He won a stage at the 1971 Tour of Portugal and then rode in the Tour de France in 1973 and 1974. At the latter, however, Ducreux tested positive for doping, with him retiring from the sport shortly afterwards.
