Colombian cyclist Mario Escobar had a brief career in the early 1960s that saw him become the national road race champion in 1961. That same year Escobar won silver in the individual road race at the Bolivarian Games before winning two silvers at the 1962 Central American and Caribbean Games in Kingston. Two years later he was selected to compete in the individual road race at the Tokyo Olympics but did not finish the course.
