Biography

The youngest of the Pettersson brothers, also known as the Fåglum brothers, cyclist Tomas Pettersson shared in his siblings’ success, in addition to having individual wins. Tomas began his career with victory in the junior road race and time trial at the 1965 Swedish championships, before winning the national team time trial title a year later with his brothers Gösta and Erik. This was then followed by domination in the team time trial at both the UCI World Championships and the Swedish national championship when the brothers, complete with Sture, won three consecutive titles from 1967 to 1969.

In 1968 the brothers also won silver in the team time trial at the Mexico City Olympics, finishing second to Italy, with Tomas also finishing seventh in the road race. In 1969 he turned professional, riding in the Tour de France in both 1970 and 1971. His professional career, however, was brief, with him retiring in 1973, a decision he later regretted.
