Barbados competed at the Olympics as an independent country the first time in 1968, sending a delegation of nine athletes to the Mexico City Games. Colin Forde was one of four cyclists who represented the island nation, competing on both the road and track. Whilst Forde did not finish in the road race, he did place 22nd in the individual pursuit in the velodrome. After his cycling career he worked for many years as an administrator in the Barbados Cycle Union. His son Barry was also a cyclist, competing on the track at the 2004 Athina Games.
