Biography

Brooklyn’s Oscar Goerke competed in all seven cycling events at the 1904 Olympics, but his only medal came in the two-mile race where he trailed Burton Downing. In that race, Goerke led at the start of the bell lap, but was no match for Downing’s finishing sprint. Goerke raced for the National Athletic Club in Brooklyn and was best known for his indoor racing ability.
