Cyclist Peter Gröning was a member of the mixed German pursuit team that won the silver medal in Roma, this time with Bernd Barleben, Manfred Klieme and Siegfried Köhler, a pure East German team. In 1959 he claimed the East German national title in this discipline. Gröning mainly started in steer races in the late 1950s.
