Biography

Jan Erik Gustavsen began his sporting career as a skater before switching to road cycling when he was 19-years-old. In 1968 Gustavsen had two top-10 finishes on stages at the Peace Race, earning him a place on the Norwegian Olympic team. At the Mexico City Games he finished 47th in the road race, just over 13 minutes behind the race winner. In the early 1970s he had a couple of podiums in the team time trial at the Nordic Championships before becoming the national champion in the event in 1976. Gustavsen later worked as a plumber before opening his own bicycle repair shop.
