Biography

Yan Fang was a mainstay in the very successful Chinese women’s national softball team of the 1990s. Yan was part of the Chinese squad that won gold at the 1990 Asian Games in Beijing after winning seven of their eight matches in the round-robin tournament. China continued to dominate the women’s softball tournament throughout the decade, winning gold in 1994 and 1998. The team remained undefeated during the 1998 Games, which saw them have a 5–0 win over arch-rivals Japan in the final. Yan also represented China at two editions of the Olympics, winning silver at the 1996 Atlanta Games and finishing fourth at the 2000 Sydney Games.
