In 1964 Singaporean cyclist Hamid Supaat won two stages and two time trials at the Tour of Malaysia. The results earned Supaat a place on the Malaysian Olympic team for the Games in Tokyo, where he competed in the road race. He found the conditions tough going, however, with him not being prepared for the cold and the rain. After narrowly missing crashing out early in the race, Supaat continued, but eventually retired after completing about half of the 194 kilometres.
