Kund won the Amateur Bicycle League of America (ABLA) 10-mile scratch race in 1965. Kund was one of the early American cyclists who went to Europe to train and race, starting in 1971. He turned professional in 1972 and taught school at the American School in The Hague.
Kund stopped racing in 1976 and returned to the United States, settling in western North Carolina, where he became a commercial photographer, also working as a ski instructor. He later moved to the coast of North Carolina, continuing as a photographer, but also spending much of his time sailing.
