Biography

Road cyclist Gerhard “Eddi” Lauke was a member of the East German 100 km time trial team that finished a disappointing 10th at the 1976 Montréal Olympics. In the individual road race, he did not finish. From 1975-77 he raced the Peace Race (Friedensfahrt), finishing third in 1976. In 1977 he earned his only national title with ASK Frankfurt on Oder in the 100 km team time trial. With the East German national team, he won a bronze medal at the World Championships in the same event. He later became a cycling coach and coached his son Ronny, among others.
