Biography

Spanish cyclist Miguel Martorell was the Balearic road champion in 1957 and 1959, and the national track pursuit champion in 1959. Also in 1959 Martorell won gold in the team road race at the Mediterranean Games in Beirut, along with bronze in the individual road race. His consistent performances earned him a spot at the 1960 Roma Olympics where he rode in the 4,000 metres team pursuit on the track. The Spanish quartet of Martorell, José María Errandonea, Francisco Tortellá, and Miguel Mora competed against the clock, but failed to set one of the eight-best times to advance to the quarter-finals. Martorell continued riding at a competitive level until he retired from the sport in 1967.
