Biography

András Mészáros was a Hungarian cyclist who represented Újpesti TE in Budapest in the 1960s. In 1963 Mészáros had the biggest victory of his career when he won the overall classification at the Tour de Hongrie. That same year he also rode in the Peace Race but was forced to abandon it. His victory at the Tour de Hongrie earned him a place on the Olympic team for the 1964 Games in Tokyo. He finished 35th in the road race, only 0.13 seconds behind the race winner, as well as 12th in the team time trial with his compatriots. Four years later Mészáros returned to the Olympics, this time just competing in the team time trial at the Mexico City Games, with Hungary finishing 17th.
