Biography

The career of French road cyclist Jean-Pierre Paranteau spanned almost 20 years, with him winning many races as an amateur before turning professional in 1969. In 1967 Paranteau won the Prix Antonin Reix before winning the stage race the Tour des Combrailles the following year. He also won two stages of the 1968 Tour du Limousin to secure a place on the Olympic team for the road race at 1968 Mexico City Games. He then rode as a professional cyclist from 1969 to 1975 for Peugeot, riding in multiple editions of the Tour de France and the Vuelta a España. Paranteau returned to the amateur ranks in 1976 where he recorded multiple podium finishes in races in France before his retirement in 1987.
