Biography

Sal Sansonetti was a cyclist born in Italy who moved to Australia in 1971 and claimed citizenship there with his twin brother Remo. He started his career with the G.S. IAG Gazoldo, winning the 1971 Italian team pursuit title in Varese with the team of the Lombardy Region alongside Pietro Algeri, Luciano Borgognoni and his brother Remo with a time of 4:31.0. Sal and Remo moved with their family to Australia at the end of 1971 and in the summer of 1972 competed for in the team pursuit his new country at the München Olympics where they were eliminated in qualifying.

Sal and Remo moved with their family to Australia at the end of 1971. Sal competed at the 1976 Olympics in the team time trial and was also 19th in the road race at the 1978 Commonwealth Games, won by his countryman Philip Anderson.
